The Department of Art at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Lecturer position in Graphic Design beginning August 1, 2018.
 
The ideal candidate’s research and pedagogy will demonstrate material, formal, and theoretical engagement with graphic design informed by a broad knowledge of the history of the discipline and its contemporary practice. Engagement with critical issues related to the field is essential, as is a conception of graphic design that allows for interdisciplinary, experimental, and vocationally-oriented approaches across a range of media. Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required. The candidate will also have some combination of the following expertise: typography, web mark-up and style-sheet languages, motion graphics, and semiotic theory. The candidate will be expected to teach courses at sophomore through senior levels. The candidate will also assist in the oversight of studio facilities and/or additional service responsibilities as appropriate.
 
The position is a non-tenure-track, annually renewable term in a NASAD accredited program. 3/3 teaching load. MFA, MDes, or equivalent degree and teaching experience at or beyond the Graduate Assistant level is required. Salary includes full benefits package. The lecturer within the UTC Department of Art is a professional development position intended to enhance prospects for a career in higher education. The lecturer will be encouraged to cultivate and/or sustain a professional research practice in design in parallel with this appointment. The Department provides the lecturer with the opportunity to meaningfully engage in academic culture, including opportunities to develop special topics courses, serve the Department, and exhibit creative research.

An MFA in ceramics is required. A background in sculpture, installation, or hybrid media and 1-3 years experience beyond TA is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to teaching visual art in a liberal arts environment. Teaching responsibilities include six-seven courses per year in all levels of ceramics (from Hand Building, through Throwing Clay and Advanced Clay, that culminates in the capstone senior thesis), possibly contributing to the Foundations curriculum, with the opportunity for course development. USC Upstate Visual Arts, in the Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies, invites qualified individuals to apply for a nine-month tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Art Studio and Foundations Coordinator beginning January 1, 2018 or August 16, 2018 on the Spartanburg and/or Greenville campus.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
